News!  Our book will be representing Alaska at the National Book Festival at the Library of Congress on August 22! The program is Great Reads from Great Places, and the Alaska selection was made by the Alaska Center for the Book.

I will be teaching a writing workshop with the Wrangell Mountains Center Aug. 29-31. (Enrollment is full.)

I will be at the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) trade show in Portland, OR Sept. 26 to 28 representing our Alaska Literary Field Guide and signing copies for booksellers and librarians.

Nov. 5 , 6 p.m. at the Homer Public Library. I am on a panel with two other short fiction writers (Rich Chiappone and Nikki Ervice) to talk about writing short fiction.

Watch this space for additional scheduled events!

I write twice-monthly book reviews for the Anchorage Daily News. These are books (not self-published) by Alaskans or with Alaska or at least northern content. Feel free to alert me to new books or send review copies! (Sorry that there is a paywall. Subscribe to newspapers and keep local journalism alive!)

Here's a commentary I wrote a while back for the ADN about the value of book reviews.
